Created in May 2001 as a french subsidary from an international company based in Montreal, URRMA R&D (Research Unit on Retroviruses and Associated diseases) has since August 2004 become a french independant company led by J-C Chermann, President and Scientific Director.
In October 2004, URRMA R&D obtained the research agreement from the French Research and Technology ministry and the world-wide license of R7V technology from INSERM (National Institute of Health and Medical Research).

URRMA-R&D was granted both the French economic label for innovation “Jeune Entreprise Innovante” in May 2005 and the OSEO-ANVAR Innovation Label in November 2005.

With the approval of INSERM, URRMA-R&D established an economic partnership in May 2005 with IVAGEN for the production and distribution of the anti-R7V ELISA test kit. The test having obtained the IDE (Investigational Device Exemption) from the FDA (Food and Drug Administration), it was granted the EC label in October 2005 for sale in Europe. The test, as dated January 2006, is being registered in 43 countries including South America, China and South Africa.

In November 2005, URRMA-R&D increased its registered capital, and Dr André LAMOTTE became a member of the Managing Board as Director of Business development and Finance.

The mission of URRMA is to develop and bring to market innovative products in treatment and pronostic of HIV infected patients based on Professor Jean-Claude Chermann’s knowledge of HIV based on his twenty plus years’ experience in this field.
